Canary Wharf Light Festival 2024

Updated: Feb 18

Canary Wharf Light Festival is a dazzling and immersive experience in London. This annual event showcases some of the most innovative and creative light artworks from around the world, transforming the Canary Wharf estate into a magical wonderland of light and colour.

Some of the highlights of this year’s festival include (in order of appearance):

Neuron by Juan Fuentes: A three-dimensional structure composed of thousands of luminous filaments that represent the neural connections in the human brain. The installation aims to make the complex concept of the brain into a tangible and beautiful art object.

Kinetic Perspectives by Juan Fuentes: A kinetic sculpture that consists of a series of geometric shapes that rotate and change colour according to the movement and sound of the visitors. The installation creates a dynamic and interactive visual experience that challenges the perception of space and perspective.

Vessels by Limbic Cinema: A series of glass vessels that contain different elements of nature, such as water, plants, and soil. The vessels are illuminated by projections that create patterns and textures on their surfaces. The installation invites visitors to reflect on the fragility and beauty of nature, and their role in preserving it.

Geist by This is Loop: Award-winning creative studio This is Loop, led by artists Harriet Lumby and Alan Hayes, have been inspired by the elusive neutrino or ‘ghost particle’ and Geist explores the hunt that is played out in enormous neutrino detectors to prove the existence of these particles.  The scientific narrative of Geist has involved input from particle physicists at the Science and Technology Facilities Council and the Physics Department at Oxford University.

As well as the stunning artworks, there are also pop-up food markets serving delicious street food and hot drinks along the way. If you are looking for something sweet, you can visit Jubilee Park where you will find pop-up fire pits to toast marshmallows. Alternatively, you can warm up with a hearty meal or a cocktail by booking a table in one of the many cafés, bars, and restaurants at Canary Wharf. We recommend booking early as it can get very busy during the event.

The Canary Wharf Light Festival is a must-see event for anyone who loves art, light, and technology. It is a unique opportunity to see some of the most innovative and creative light artworks from around the world, and to experience the Canary Wharf estate in a new and exciting way. We fell in love with this festival and will cover the next 2025 edition in depth!
